A Manx language initiative aimed at brightening children’s healthcare visits has begun rolling out across the Isle of Man.
Nurse Ciara Kilgallon has launched a series of colourful Manx‑language stickers for use in GP surgeries, dental practices and hospital clinics, after receiving £500 from Culture Vannin’s Treisht26 fund in 2025.
The first four designs, created by Ramsey artist Leanne Higgins of Pink Seaweed Gallery, feature the phrase “Ta mee dunnal – I am brave” and are already being distributed in settings including Ramsey Group Practice and the community dental service at Noble’s Hospital.
Sticker Project
Ciara, who moved to the island as a teenager, said the project grew from her own habit of giving young patients stickers and explaining the Manx phrases printed on them.
“It’s a lovely way to introduce the language in a simple, friendly way,” she said.
She hopes the scheme will continue to spread across Manx Care services. “It’s a low‑cost, high‑impact project that celebrates Manx language and culture in a way children will remember fondly.”

The project is one of 30 Treisht26 commissions celebrating Manx language during Blein ny Gaelgey, the Year of the Manx Language 2026.
