Rachel O’Connor, a business owner and founder of community initiative ‘The Shared Table’, has announced her intention to stand in the upcoming by-election for Peel Town Commissioners.
The 34-year-old mum of two stated her intent in a post made to social media, saying: “After giving it a lot of thought, and after speaking with the clerk about the process, I’m really excited to formally announce my intention to stand in the upcoming Peel Commissioners by-election.”
O’Connor will vie for the seat vacated by MHK Katryna Baptist, after the latter was successfully elected to the House of Keys last month having topped the polls in Glenfaba and Peel.
The owner of The Paw Patrol Doggy Day Care confirmed that her manifesto will be available in due course, but in the meantime, encouraged residents of Peel to come forward with their concerns.
“I’ll ask questions, I’ll speak up when it matters, and if somebody brings an idea or concern to me, I’ll make sure they know what happens with it rather than it disappearing into a black hole,” she said.
“If it needs to go to an MHK, we need to make sure we’re working closely with them to ensure that happens, and that residents are kept up to date and in the loop.”
She concluded: “I’d be incredibly proud to represent the town I call home, and raise my children in.
“Please be kind, putting myself out there is terrifying, but I really care about Peel so I’m giving it a go.”
