Orran finishes 5th in gruelling 268 mile race

An outstanding performance and 10 hour personal best for Orran Smith in The Montane Winter Spine race.

Orran finished the non-stop, 268 mile challenge in 94 hours, 10 hours quicker than his 104 hours last year.

He finished 5th in his category and 6th overall.

On both occasions the event has taken place during the coldest spell of weather of the winter, making it even more of a test of endurance.

The Montane Winter Spine race

The race took place along the most iconic and demanding national trail in Britain; the Pennine Way.

Beginning from Edale in Derbyshire, runners have a time limit of 168 hours to reach the elusive village of Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders.

Runners climbed over 10,000 meters as the route crosses some of the most beautiful but difficult terrain found in England, including the Peak District, Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland National Park, Hadrian’s Wall and the Cheviots.

On both occasions the race has taken place during the coldest spell of weather of the winter, making it even more of a test of endurance.
