Rise in Manx Care Staff Using Welfare Service

The number of Manx Care staff seeking support from the government’s Staff Welfare Service has more than doubled since 2022.

Data from a Freedom of Information response reveals that 207 Manx Care employees underwent initial assessments in 2024-2025, up from 100 in 2022-2023.

Across all departments, total assessments rose to 540 last year, compared to 513 three years ago.

The service provides counselling and support for issues such as work-related stress, bereavement, and critical incidents and is available to all public service staff, regardless as to whether they are full time, part time, seasonal staff or bank staff.

The Education, Sport & Culture, with 120 assessments in 2024-2025, was the other only to record over 50 initial assessments in the last year.

Smaller departments were grouped to protect confidentiality, while 27 cases did not record a department.
