Over 5% Rates Increase For Arbory & Rushen

Arbory & Rushen Parish Commissioners has confirmed an increase of 9p in the local authority rate for the 2025-2026 financial year.

This will bring the new rate to 1.83 pence in the pound and represents a 5.2% increase.

The increase is driven by rising waste disposal and Southern Civic Amenity Site (SCAS) costs, as well as the ongoing LED street lighting conversion project.

Although the commissioners say that it is expected to deliver medium-term savings for ratepayers.

Chairman of the Board, Peter Gunn, highlighted that refuse collection and disposal charges, and costs of the Southern Civic Amenity Site remain the most significant expenditure, accounting for over 61% of the annual budget.

The Commissioners continue to support the Southern Swimming Pool, commending the SSPB and staff for their efforts in maintaining a sustainable operating model during challenging times.

The Board has also taken a prudent approach to financial planning, setting aside some funding in anticipation of costs associated with responding to the MUA wind farm proposal planning application.
