The most recent figures for the island’ social housing waiting lists show 975 there were applications seeking social housing.
Just 165 new social housing units have been built in the last three years, though some of these were replacements for other developments.
The figures, released by DoI Minister Tim Crookall after a question from Claire Christian (Douglas South), show that Douglas had the longest the waiting list with 242 applications, which reflects its status as the largest housing authority.
Douglas was also the authority which has built the largest number of new housing units, with the 66 flats that opened on Peel Road in 2022.
Lists
The DoI itself has the next longest waiting list, with 147 applications awaiting housing, it has built just six new homes in the last three years.
Onchan had the next highest with 92 general housing applications and 39 sheltered accommodation units, it has not built any new units in the last three years.
