Packet Issues Manannan Update

The Steam Packet has provided an update on efforts to resolve technical issues with the fast craft Manannan, which led to the cancellation of Sunday and Monday’s sailings.

A generator failure on Saturday prompted engineers and the shoreside workshop team to begin repairs on Sunday.

A company spokesperson said: “Engineers and the workshop team are in the process of swapping out one of the generator sets with the spare unit kept ashore. This is a major undertaking which commenced on Sunday and will see the unit installed today.”

Specialist electrical engineers are being flown in to assist with diagnostics and repairs.

The spokesperson added: “While the Company is optimistic this issue can be quickly resolved, until the specialist engineers are on site it is not possible to give a definitive timeline.”

Meanwhile, engineers are also addressing an ongoing issue with another generator set to ensure sufficient capacity for resuming services.

Managing Director Brian Thomson said: “The team has been working hard to resolve this situation as we’re well aware of how critical this time of year is for holidaymakers travelling in both directions.

“We’re doing everything we can to minimise disruption and return to normal service as soon as possible.”
