The Jane Crookall Maternity Unit has moved to reassure expecting mothers that they can take paracetamol.
It has shared advice from The Royal College of Midwives and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
President Donald Trump has said that the pain reliever Tylenol, known as paracetamol in the UK, “is no good” for pregnant women to use, citing a disputed link between the drug and autism.
However, the RCM has said that taking paracetamol during pregnancy “remains safe and there is no evidence it causes autism in children”.
The Jane Crookall said: “Our midwives, as well as The Royal College of Midwives & multiple reputable sources wish to assure you that Paracetamol STILL remains safe during pregnancy!
“If you have any concerns, please speak to your midwife.”
