A parent has voiced their concerns to Manx.News over a number of injuries that happened at Andreas Primary School between 2019 and 2022.
The increase of injuries seemed to coincide with a scheme that was introduced that encouraged ‘active play’.
The data shows that 43 accidents happened at the school over this time period; when the scheme was in place.
Appendix one: Andreas School
The parent feels that the primary school wasn’t receiving sufficient funding from IOM Government to have enough staff to enable all children to be kept safe and prevent potentially avoidable injuries.
In 2019, over half (55.88%) of all school injuries happened at Andreas School.
During 2020, the figures showed that 72.72% of school injuries happened at Andreas School.
In 2021, it then dropped to 45.71% of school injuries happening at Andreas.
Andreas Primary
In one incident a child fell an estimated six foot from the monkey bars which resulted in them breaking both wrists.
The following year a child broke a bone and required surgery, the school did admit liability for this incident.
The break occurred when the child slipped over a tree stump in the playground.
A parent told Manx.News that since the school has been under new leadership things have improved, but stands by that the school isn’t receiving enough funding.
Manx.News have contacted the Department of Education for comment.
