The Great North Air Ambulance Service deployed its critical care team to the Isle of Man in response to a serious incident.
Last week, a call for assistance came in at approximately 6:30pm.
While GNAAS helicopters typically remain grounded after sunset, the team was able to respond thanks to the aircraft’s ability to operate helipad-to-helipad flights.
By just after 7pm, the helicopter had landed at Noble’s Hospital helipad, where the crew immediately assumed care of the patient.
Airlifted
The individual was then airlifted across the Irish Sea to a major trauma centre, arriving at 8:19pm.
Following the successful transfer, the pilot refuelled and returned to base before reaching regulated flight hour limits.
Meanwhile, the onboard doctor and critical care paramedic remained at the hospital to complete the medical handover.
The charity said: “At present, missions to the Isle of Man are fully funded. However, future operations will rely on the support and generosity of local residents and fundraising efforts to ensure the service remains available when it is most needed.”
