Local authorities in the north have agreed they would not subsidise Bride Commissioners to allow them to rejoin the Northern Civic Amenity Site.
Minutes of a meeting held by the joint committee have been published.
It confirms the boards agree that the site needs to open the re-use shed and remain operational seven days a week but are not sure how to go ‘forward’.
Both Lezayre and Jurby Commissioners said they don’t want to take legal action, whilst Andreas Commissioners suggested not paying the site’s rent.
The committee said it recognises the need for the site but is still looking at handing over management to the DoI.
Discussions were also had about ‘misinformation’ spread out by Bride and that there is ‘no or limited’ legislation in place to help local authorities as well as the lack of action by DoI.
The joint committee also agreed that if the quarries were removed from Bride and it paid less to the site but doubled its rates, the representatives would be ‘happy’ with that solution.
It was also agreed that there is a need for government to do something.
