Dandara’s plans to build 92 homes on the outskirts of Peel have been deferred by the island’s planing committee.
The committee decided to take a site visit before deciding on the plans.
An opponent of the application, Glenfaba and Peel MHK Kate Lord-Brennan, has said “there must be some constraint and conditions now both on large residential development proposals / zoning and new planning applications for significant residential development in Peel, especially where they are proposed or applied for on greenfield sites on the outskirts of town”.
She added: “At this stage, I suggest there needs to be restraint in approval of significant large scale development in Peel on an infrastructure basis.
“For example, the proposed (albeit draft) Area Plan for the North and West, includes provision in policy that impact on education and health provision should be taken account of, and even more specifically, that no further applications for significant development should be approved until sewage treatment is operational. This signals clear and thought out policy intent which is more up to date in various ways.”
The government minister has also said no major applications should be approved in Peel until the area’s sewage issue has been resolved, a process which could take some time.
