Manx Utilities says that construction of the new sewage treatment works in Peel is progressing to schedule, with sheet piling now finished at the site.
The public-owned utility provider said the steel sheets have been driven into the ground to form enclosed working areas for the new Integral Rotating Biological Contactor (IRBC) treatment tanks.
Excavation of the first cofferdam, a temporary watertight enclosure that allows work below ground level, has been completed, allowing concrete works to begin.
“Excavated material is being spread and compacted to form the required ground levels around the site,” a Manx Utilities update said.
Pre-fabrication of the IRBC units is continuing within the storage area while work on utility service installation and ancillary structures progresses.
Pump
Meanwhile, work continues inside the pump station on Peel Promenade where new pipework and pumps are being installed alongside existing equipment.
Temporary traffic lights are now in place to maintain safe access to the tanks during the removal of existing penstocks, large gate valves used to control water flow, and electrical and control cabling.
The next phase of the promenade works will begin in early March.
