Peel Works Progressing Well

Manx Utilities says work at Peel’s sewage treatment works is continuing as planned, with excavation of three of four cofferdams now complete.

Concrete base and wall works are ongoing at the site, while pre-fabrication of the Integrated Rotating Biological Contactor units has seen base sections of three of seven units finished.

Manx Utilities said installation of connecting pipelines had restarted at Close Chairn but was taking longer than other areas due to existing underground services.

“Progress here is slower than in other areas because there are many existing underground services that need to be safely diverted or worked around while the new pipework is installed,” an update said.

Pump Station

At the Pump Station on Peel Promenade, temporary traffic lights remain in place while engineers remove existing penstocks and replace electrical cabling.

The existing station has been decommissioned, with temporary over-pumping now in operation.

Manx Utilities confirmed the new pumps and control panels would be commissioned over the next two months.

Residents have been warned of potential disruption during the work.

“There may be some low-level noise and occasional odour (which may be noticed until the end of May) associated with the temporary over-pumping activity at the pumping station site.

“Please bear with us and accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. These impacts are temporary and unfortunately cannot be avoided,” the MUA added.
