Pharmacy group Karsons has issued a community health update in response to a confirmed rise in scabies cases on the island.
The highly contagious skin condition, caused by microscopic mites, leads to significant itching and a characteristic rash, but is fully treatable.
In a post on social media, the pharmacy advised the public to seek guidance if experiencing persistent itching, especially at night, a red bumpy rash, or thin lines on the skin.
The company said: “You can speak to us confidentially at Karsons Pharmacy and we’ll guide you on the most appropriate next steps.”
Karsons notes individuals should contact their GP directly in specific circumstances, including if the affected person is an infant under two months, or if symptoms are worsening or show signs of infection.
Manx Care has confirmed an outbreak at Noble’s Hospital, with IOM Today reporting outbreaks on at least two wards, though this has not been confirmed by the health body.
A spokesperson said: “All necessary precautions and procedures are being followed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our patients and to protect our colleagues.”
