Police are warning motorists on the school run to make sure they obey the rules.
Yesterday (Thursday) was the start of a new school year and officers attended a number of schools to reinforce the safety message.
“We can report that the majority of road users have understood our message and were taking care around such areas,” said a spokesperson.
“One topic that did arise today was parking restrictions outside schools. Yellow painted zig‑zags clearly marked ‘Keep Clear’ outside schools are there to ensure that children arriving and leaving are visible to traffic, and that children can see when it is safe to cross.
“It is not a drop‑off or pick‑up point for parents.”
The spokesperson added: “Please make sure these areas are kept clear as they create a safe area for children to cross.”
Ticket
Meanwhile the police revealed that, at one school, a motorist was given a ticket for parking on a corner, at a junction, on double yellow lines and leaving the vehicle.
“We will advise where we can during the next two weeks, but any examples of dangerous parking or speeding will receive enforcement action to ensure the ongoing safety of children at these key times,” said the spokesperson.
