The Chief Minister has held what he described as “helpful, engaging and productive” discussions with senior representatives of the Commonwealth Jewish Council.
The delegation was led by the Council’s President Lord Mendelsohn, joined by Trustee Howard Rosen CBE and Chief Executive Arieh Miller.
The organisation, formally recognised by the Commonwealth in 2018, works to support Jewish communities across member nations in promoting safety, respect and community resilience.
During the meeting which was held on the island, the Council highlighted the Isle of Man’s reputation as a safe, stable and welcoming community, praising the island’s economic agility, competitiveness and strong regulatory standards.
Lord Mendelsohn also noted the island’s role within the wider British family and the broader economic contribution it makes.
The Council expressed appreciation for the Isle of Man Government’s adoption earlier this year of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism, describing it as an important step in fostering inclusivity and cohesion.
The Chief Minister Alfred Cannan said the island’s strong community spirit and consensus‑based democratic tradition were rightly recognised beyond its shores, adding that in challenging times it remained important to champion values of inclusivity, tolerance, fairness and respect for all.
