A new Facebook group is uniting people who are against the proposed wind farm at Earystane.
‘Cair Vie – Protect our Uplands’ says its mission is to “support sustainable forms of energy without damaging our precious environment and wildlife”.
While the government and Manx Utilities wants to build up to four or five wind turbines in the south of the island, the plans have proved highly controversial, even with those who want to embrace greener energy sources.
Heritage and Scale
The page says: “The island’s uplands landscape is a key element of our national heritage, an important natural and economic asset and a treasured amenity for residents and visitors alike.
“These contain some of our most beautiful landscapes, unique plants and wildlife and are an integral part of our island’s culture and heritage. They are a priceless resource which, once lost, cannot be restored and they are currently under threat of development.”
It has also shared pictures of, what it says, is the impact the wind turbines would have in other places around the island. You can see those pictures below.
As well as a Facebook page, the movement also has a website where it is detailing its campaign.
