Pulled For Road Tax, Arrested For Drugs

Earlier today, the Isle of Man Constabulary got more than they bargained for when stopping a van for being driven with expired road tax.

Officer assumed something else wasn’t right and following a drug wipe being administered, the driver tested positive for being under the influence of cannabis.

He was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst over the specified drug drive limit.

Drug Driving

Officers discovered the driver was in possession of some controlled drugs, and was further arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled Class B drug.

The driver has now had their van seized, been arrested, officers say “will likely be facing a ban if convicted”.

The force said: “It’s often the small mistakes (in this case expired tax), that leads to us discovering the more serious offences.

“Driving whilst over the specified limit poses a huge risk to the public and other road users.

“It impairs the drivers ability to react accordingly and drive safely – thus increasing the chances of a collision occuring.”
