Just 27 of Noble’s 81 hospital consultants have finalised their job plans for the coming financial year, with just seven weeks to go until the April deadline.
Health Minister Claire Christian confirmed the figures in a written answer to Tynwald.
Of the 54 plans still outstanding, all are “in progress” and the department is aiming to complete them “prior to the start of the new financial year”.
The job planning exercise is part of a wider drive to standardise how consultant time is allocated and measured, using “consistent criteria based upon DHSC policy and best practice guidance issued by the Royal Colleges”.
All new plans must include measurable objectives, including components related to clinical validation and the provision of advice and guidance.
While the process is not yet complete, the minister said early findings show cost control improvements.
“Notably, there are instances where duties previously covered through bank arrangements have now been incorporated directly into consultant job plans,” she said.
The move is expected to reduce spending on bank staff for on-call and cross-cover duties.
