Rachel victorious in Easter Festival of Running

In yesterdays (March 29) IQEQ Easter Festival 10k road race, local star and three-times champion Rachael Franklin took another victory in a time of 34:57

Franklin broke away from early leader Elizabeth Barlow (Sheffield Uni) and found herself under pressure from Naomi Kingston (Oxford Uni) who ran very well to finish just seven seconds adrift.

It was Rachael’s tenth race victory in the Festival over the years.

Easter Running Festival

The leading U20 was Amelia Bratt (Leeds Doss) who was 11th overall in 38:36.

The first three veterans were all former Festival champions.

Emma Raven (Leeds Doss) clocked 39:43, Polly Keen (Cambridge Uni) 39:57 and special guest Mara Yamauchi 40:29.

Leading men

A first-time winner was Ewan Wheelwright (Leeds Doss) in a time of 30:53, followed by impressive 2023 debutant Matt Knowles (Edinburgh Uni) with 31:00 and former Great Britain cross-country international and 2016 Festival champion Oliver Fox (Cambridge Uni) with 31:11.

The first U20 in eighth place overall was Freddie Roden (Manchester Alehouse) with 31:42, and the first U17 in 46th place was Lucas Stennett (Ramsey Grammar School) in an excellent time of 34:26.

The total of 490 finishers was a record, beating last year’s 481.

The 204 female finishers was a record by a big margin.
