Manx Radio has paid tribute to former colleague and beloved community figure Steve DeHaven, describing him as “part of the fabric of the radio station’s history.”
Born and raised in the USA, Mr DeHaven met the late Bernie Quayle, a renowned US radio presenter, in Tennessee.
This led to his marriage to Quayle’s sister Pauline before relocating to the Isle of Man in 1975.
Innovative
“Steve’s links with Manx Radio are part of the radio station’s history,” the station said.
He joined in the 1970s, serving a nine-year tenure, including a successful spell as Sales Manager.
“He introduced many innovative features, a number of which continue to run today.”
His connection with the station endured through his daughter Christy, who became a presenter and producer nearly a decade ago.
In 2021, he appeared as a guest on Marc Tyley’s MiTunes, sharing “very personal stories about his time as a medic in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War”.
A dedicated volunteer with Hospice Isle of Man, Mr DeHaven was “much loved and will be sorely missed.”
Manx Radio extended its “deepest condolences to Pauline, DeAnna, Francesca, Christy and all of Steve’s family and friends”.
