Party Calls For Govt to Help Library

The Manx Labour Party has called on the government to help chart a sustainable future of the Family Library.

As we reported earlier this week, the library says it will close, ending all of its services, later this summer.

The Manx Labour Party, represented in Tynwald by Joney Faragher and Sarah Maltby, said that there are “very few places left where families can receive services without charge”.

It added that there are “few places where you can simply bring a child without spending money”.

The party said: “It’s vital that we save the few we have left. As an island, we need to do everything we can to help this service survive.

“The importance of this organisation extends far beyond lending books.

“The Manx Labour Party urges the government to not only back the Family Library, but also help chart a sustainable plan so that the organisation doesn’t need to fight for its existence every few years.”

The issue will also be raised in an urgent Tynwald question next week.
