The island has welcomed a number of travel writers to its shores over the last 12 months and it’s always nice to see how they’ve viewed it.
Chris Moss of the Telegraph has given his view on our little isle, and has been very kind about the tourism aspects.
It is hard to argue how beautiful our coastlines, plantations and castles are on a beautiful day, and it looks like Chris truly understands that.
Missing Out
Chris wrote in his article: “The Isle of Man is an unknown quantity for most Britons.
“A local who works in tourism told me the English overlook it, French and Germans love it, and Americans “like it but don’t get it”.
“I suspect that’s because Manx culture doesn’t serve up the easy clichés you can find in Ireland and Scotland.”
He says that Douglas has become a cool capital, but “still delivers ancient sites, seaside nostalgia and a quirky transport network”.
Travel Writer
During his trip the island, Chris took advantage of our electric railway, many local restaurants and some of our local hotels.
He noted the history and vintage aspect to the island, but also said “things are being modernised and genuine style, and quality, are on offer”.
Whilst here he also delved into the Manx language with the knowledgable Ruth Keggin Gell.
Before noting some of the best things to do whilst on the island, he said: “The Isle of Man is changing, but not, mercifully, at TT speed.
“Food and drink are on the up, hotels are pushing beyond the presumptive habits of the past, and local produce and creativity are being celebrated.”
