Rape Appeal to be Heard in May

Two men seeking to appeal against their convictions and sentences for rape will appear before the court in the spring.

James Marcus Doherty and Graham Skillicorn were convicted by a jury, along with Steven Cannon, of the rape of a teenage woman.

At a previous hearing, Judge of Appeal Justice Anthony Cross warned the men that they are not automatically entitled to an appeal and he and a panel will decide if their appeals can go forward.

That decision is believed to still be due to be made at their hearing on May 30.

Justice Cross will appear on a three deemster panel alongside Deemster Pratt and Deemster Farrell.

Doherty was jailed by Deemster Graeme Cook for 16 years and Skillicorn for 14 and a half years.
