Local authority and rate reform was the latest topic of choice for Liberal Vannin’s public meeting – which doesn’t have a formal policy on this issue.
15 people were at the meeting, including members of the public, and various councillors and commissioners.
Questions were raised during the meeting about the town versus country divide, and whether bigger regional local authorities are the answer.
Rate reform was mentioned a number of times during the rate setting process for local authorities earlier this year, as almost all were raised in line with or above inflation.
Douglas Councillors Peter Washington and Steven Crellin agree the system needs to change, as they believe it’s unfair on a lot of residents:
Liberal Vannin leader Paul Weatherall says he organised the meeting to encourage people thinking about standing in next years local authority elections.
Local authority reform has been an ongoing issue, but Mr Weatherall believes party politics is one of the few ways to solve the problem and see change.
He says the next administration should be bringing forward ideas:
