New figures show a split in the recent performance for the island’s aircraft and shipping registries.
The Ship Registry is holding steady while the Aircraft Registry continues to see a decline.
The total number of ships on the register has dipped since 2021, but there’s been a recent boost in new sign-ups, with 71 new vessels this year so far.
It’s a different story for the Aircraft Registry where the total number of planes on the books has dropped each year, from 346 in 2021 to 284 this year.
New aircraft registrations have also fallen, with just 32 new additions in 2025 to date.
Money earned by the aircraft register has also been down, though it saw a slight uptick in the last financial year.
Minister for Enterprise Tim Johnston provided the figures in answer to questions from Douglas North MHK John Wannenburgh.
