A review of the island’s schools has found that students feel safe and valued, but says there is work to do on how subjects are taught and how progress is measured.
The report, from external validators Etio, looked at 14 schools and three education services between January and October last year.
It found that schools and education services had created “calm and supportive environments in which learners felt known, valued and secure”.
Staff were praised for showing “a careful understanding of learners’ needs”, with the report saying children were getting good support to help them take part in school life.
Leaders and teachers were also highlighted for working well together, with the report noting they showed “a shared commitment to improvement”.

However, the review said more work was needed to make sure curriculum content was well planned and clearly linked together.
It said: “Continued refinement of curriculum structure and coherence will support settings in identifying and sequencing the knowledge, skills and understandings that learners need.”
Schools were also told they need to get better at checking how well pupils understand lessons and at using assessment to shape future teaching.
Primary schools said making the curriculum clearer was a key priority, while secondary schools focused on improving how they check pupils’ understanding day-to-day.
The review is part of a three-year project running until July to help raise standards across the island’s education system.
