Onchan MHK Rob Callister is the first to declare his intention to stand for Chief Minister.
He has released a glossy manifesto stating his intent.
But, in circulating the manifesto, he gave this caveat: “At this stage, I am simply seeking to gauge the level of support available.” He said he would make a final decision on October 5.”
In the manifesto introduction, he states: “The Isle of Man needs a focused, united and determined Government capable of addressing major challenges in housing, healthcare, public finances, infrastructure, economic resilience and public confidence.
“These challenges require clear leadership, collective responsibility and a practical ‘Programme for Delivery’ that brings Tynwald, central government and the Manx public together around shared priorities.”
Callister adds: “If elected Chief Minister, I would seek to lead by building trust across the House of Keys and Tynwald, valuing the experience of Members, encouraging proper scrutiny, and creating an administration focused on measurable progress over the next five years.”
Two other front-runners, current Chief Minister Alf Cannan and Treasury Minister Chris Thomas, have been cautious on whether they will stand, while speculation is mounting Jane Poole-Wilson will be in the mix.
More to follow.
