There was quite a story at the end of the Winter Hill League race at Colden, the final round of the 2025 series.
Saturday (December 6) saw the last Winter Hill League before the series switches to become a summer event next year after 31 years in its current format.
Rory Teare from Manx Harriers became the youngest-ever overall league winner, an achievement all the more remarkable as he is still in the U13 age group.
Winter Hill League
One of the great things about the Winter Hill League is that runners from the age of 12 and upwards race alongside each other on equal terms, giving young athletes the opportunity to match strides with the established seniors.
The first and second placed runners in the league after the first two rounds were absent today, giving Rory a wonderful chance to clinch the league on overall aggregate time, and he did so in great style.
He won the league by a margin of one minute and 23 seconds from another young athlete Corrie Brogan of Manx Fell Runners who is an U15.
In third place on aggregate was former Isle of Man cross-country champion Andy Cannell, who has recently returned to live on the island after many years away.
The race was won today by Joey Bond with an excellent run, and Alice Forster completed a hat-trick of wins in the women’s category to clinch the women’s title.
