Roundabout Work Should Start in Summer

Infrastructure Minister Tim Crookall has confirmed the intention for the new Balthane roundabout to be “fully operational in spring 2027″.

That is subject to planning and financial approvals, with construction scheduled to begin in September 2026.

Jason Moorhouse raising the issue of proposed coal tar storage under the site, stating it would require “a one way system” and “a longer timetable”.

He asked if the current minister also agreed to “have this large area of coal tar placed under the new roundabout.”

Mr Crookall responded in the affirmative and added: “Sometimes I wish this scheme was even bigger than what it is planned to be, so we could get more coal tar in there than we have.”

On finances, Mr Moorhouse asked if “stress testing” had been done.

Mr Crookall replied funding was not yet in place due to awaiting for planning and the coal tar issue, adding: “The longer that goes on that we don’t sort those out, the prices will obviously go up.”
