The amazing Sarah Webster came agonisingly close to setting a world record on Saturday (August 24).
She completed 40 miles on the track in Gloucester in a time of 4:26:50, missing the long-standing women’s world record by just seven seconds.
That record was set by British athlete Carolyn Hunter-Rowe in Barry in 1993.
Close to World Record
It was another incredible feat of endurance and impressive speed by the Northern AC athlete and chairperson, the latest in a series of extraordinary achievements by her in recent years.
Commenting on her personal Facebook page afterwards, Sarah felt she lost a little bit of concentration which allowed her to slip just a fraction outside the schedule she needed.
She completed 161 laps of the track, and managed a 94-second lap on the last one.
