The headteacher and deputy headteacher of Rushen Primary School are to be absent from the school until the end of term as they have been ‘seconded to other duties’.
The Department of Education, Sports and Culture (DESC) sent a letter to parents and carers yesterday (July 1) informing them of the departments decision.
Whilst the pair are elsewhere within DESC, Scoill Phurt le Moirrey headteacher Simon Murphy will take post on a ‘temporary basis’ until further notice.
Murphy will continue to fulfil his duties at the primary school in Port St Mary as well as ‘providing leadership support and guidance to the staff and pupils at Rushen’.
Suzanne Owens was appointed headteacher of Rushen Primary School in September 2017.

Rushen Primary School undertook the new school validation quality assurance process last week, with the validation team believed to have visited the school on June 27 and 28.
Each validation visit is undertaken as part of an overall six to eight week programme.
Within this time the lead validator and supporting team will visit each school to validate the self-evaluation completed by school and educational service leaders.
This will inform next steps for the growth of all schools and services.
During their visit the external validators will work alongside school and service leaders and teachers to explore identified validation trails.
Activities include speaking to students, meeting with staff and other relevant stakeholders, looking at students’ work, joining lessons and reviewing school and service data and priorities.
