Minister without Portfolio Tim Crookall has confirmed that the Efficiencies Programme team is working with government departments to identify unused assets for disposal.
The announcement came in response to a question from Onchan Julie Edge, who asked for a list of inactive assets marked for sale.
Mr Crookall said: “The Efficiencies Programme team are working with departments to identify where there are properties which are not in active use and do not have identified potential strategic needs beyond those which are currently on the market.”
Disposal
Currently, two properties from the Department of Home Affairs and the DHSC are undergoing legal processes for disposal this year, alongside one already completed.
These sales are expected to generate approximately £2.1 million in 2025. DEFA has also identified several properties that may become available pending review.
Officers are additionally reviewing two vacant properties with the DHSC to assess strategic needs.
However, Mr Crookall declined to publish a full list, stating, “It would not be appropriate to provide a list at this stage as proper consideration needs to be given by the team and the Departments involved prior to raising expectations.”
Public
Responding to the reply from Mr Crookall, Ms Edge questioned where the listings were and whether the process was transparent.
She said: “This isn’t just about buildings — it’s about trust, transparency, and responsible financial management and Governance of YOUR the public’s assets.”
Ms Edge also called for politicians to be informed before the sale of any properties.
