The island’s Fire Service has added its tribute to former firefighter Nigel Rawlinson.
Mr Rawlinson’s sad death has been met with tributes from across the island, including Western Vikings Rugby Club.
The service described him as a “larger-than-life character” who served the community for over 20 years.
A statement said: “It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the untimely passing of our former colleague and friend, Nigel Rawlinson.”
“Nige was a well-known and highly respected figure within the local community,” the statement continued. “His dedication and service leave behind a lasting legacy and many cherished memories.”
The station added: “Our thoughts are with Nige’s children, family, and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
Earlier today, Western Vikings said it was “deeply saddened” by his death noting that even after he stopped playing, he maintained a strong connection and active role with the club.
Mr Rawlinson was also chair of Peel Viking Longboats.
It said: “Sending our thoughts and deepest condolences to his family, friends and especially to Chris, Shannon and Daniel.
“Nigel will be greatly missed by all who have competed or been part of the Viking Longboat Races and the wider sporting community in the west of the island.”
