Public Services Commission settlement agreements have cost taxpayers approximately £2.3m over the past four years.
The figures have been released by PSC Chair Rob Callister, following a question from Julie Edge (Onchan)
The payments, made under conciliated settlement agreements, come as a result of resolving employment disputes, PSC Mutually Agreed Resignation Scheme (MARS), buying out of terms and conditions and redundancies.
The figures, show that the PSC approved:
- 2 agreements in late 2021 (average cost: £114,374.66)
- 29 agreements in 2022 (average cost: £55,182.94)
- 10 agreements in 2023 (average cost: £41,298.10)
- 8 agreements in 2024 (average cost: £12,091.75)
This gives a rough estimate of £2,338,769.58 total payments.
Mr Callister said: “The Office of Human Resources (OHR) does not enter into conciliated settlement agreements as it is not an employing authority.
“In cases involving individuals who are employed by the Public Services Commission (PSC), a business case must be submitted by the HR business partner of the relevant Department, Board or Office to seek a Commission Approval.
“This business case will then be considered by OHR officers with the appropriate delegated authority from the PSC.”
