Peter Shimmin has announced he will stand as a candidate for Douglas Central in the General Election.
Mr Shimmin said he cares “deeply about where the Isle of Man is heading”, adding that “the decisions we make now will define what life looks like for my generation and the ones that follow”.
The son of former MHK John Shimmin, Mr Shimmin said his experience includes working inside government and years of involvement in the community, “especially in the arts and creative life”.
He said those experiences “have shaped me, grounded me, and given me a strong sense of what matters to people”.
Focus
Mr Shimmin confirmed he has left full-time work to focus on the campaign, saying he had been “managing my finances so I can leave full-time work and dedicate the next six months solely to my campaign”.
He outlined his priorities, saying: “I care about whether young people and families can see a secure future here.
“I care about whether people can trust our politicians and public servants. And I care about making life more affordable, so people feel less pressure in their day-to-day lives.”
He added: “I want to listen, speak up, and work hard for Douglas Central, with energy, compassion, and a genuine commitment to the place we all call home.”
Both sitting MHKs in Douglas Central, Ann Corlett and Chris Thomas, have previously said they intend to stand in September.
