The Treasury has disclosed millions in additional support for Manx Care, prompting an Onchan MHK to argue the health body’s headline budget does not reflect the full cost to taxpayers.
The figures, released in a written answer to Julie Edge, reveal centralised services across government have provided substantial staffing and recharge costs since Manx Care’s inception in 2021.
Treasury Minister Chris Thomas said: “This response includes costs that are directly attributable to Manx Care or that are recharged.
“It does not include costs incurred by other departments that are not then recharged, such as insurance.”
Costs
The DoI’s Facilities Management division dedicated 46 full-time equivalent staff to Manx Care, with payroll costs of £9.3 million, while the Attorney General’s Chambers maintained 5.1 FTE staff costing £1.46 million.
Ms Edge said on Facebook: “Taxpayers deserve transparency on the true government cost of Health.”
She added: “My Treasury answer has identified around £33 million in additional support and costs carried through other departments budgets. That means the headline Manx Care figure is not the full true cost.”
The Cabinet Office’s human resources team has provided dedicated support with staff costs totalling £1.42 million since 2021.
Ms Edge added: “Taxpayers deserve transparency on the true cost of delivering health and social care across Government.”
Manx Care’s 2026/27 Mandate cost stands at £404.2 million.
