A man who stole a case of beer from Winerite has been fined £300.
Phillip Bailey, 40, of Douglas, was sentenced by Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood.
Prosecutor Kathryn Johnson told the court that Bailey went in to the now closed Winerite store on February 13.
He was then observed putting a case of San Miguel in a bag before heading to the checkouts where he tried to pay for some bread, only to see his transaction declined.
Bailey then left the store without paying or attempting to pay for the beer.
When he went into the store the next day staff refused to serve him and later that day he rang the store claiming he didn’t remember being in the day before and asked how he could resolve the matter.
Despite this, the store rang the police and he was subsequently arrested.
Choosing to accept the recommendation of a social enquiry report, Ms Braidwood fined Bailey £300 and ordered him to pay £50 in costs.
He will pay this at the rate of £10 a week after the conclusion of an existing fine.
