Single Patient Record Plans Move Forward

The island has taken a step towards creating a single digital patient record, with the Department of Health and Social Care launching a procurement process to find a supplier for the new Manx Care Record.

The system would replace up to 16 existing platforms and bring together information from hospitals, GPs, community services, mental health and social care.

Officials say the aim is to reduce duplication, improve access to information and support more consistent care across services.

Health and Social Care Minister Claire Christian MHK said the record would support “safer and more joined‑up services”.

Manx Care’s Chief Clinical Information Officer Dr Gregor Peden described it as a long‑term investment intended to give clinicians a shared view of patient information.

A full business case is due in early 2027. If approved, the Manx Care Record would be introduced in phases from early 2028.

The project is still in its discovery stage, with £535,000 allocated so far through design and feasibility funding.
