Sir Mark Cavendish has received a Lifetime Achievement award for his contribution to Manx sport.
The 39-year-old picked up the honour at the Isle of Man Sports Awards where he also won sportsman of the year for 2024.
A packed Villa Marina celebrated Sir Cav’s win with a standing ovation worthy of a man who is quite simply the greatest sprint cyclist of all time who left the island to conquer the world.
The Manx Missile won a staggering 165 professional races in a glittering career, spanning two decades, including a record breaking 35 stages at the Tour de France. In true superstar fashion he even won the final race of his career in Singapore before retiring from the sport in November.
Sir Cav was presented with his awards at the Villa Marina where plans to rebrand the raceway at the National Sports Centre, where he started racing as a young boy, in honour of his immense legacy were unveiled to sports fans.
He said: “It’s such an amazing feeling – it is very, very special to receive these awards. I am so grateful and really excited to see the plans for the NSC, which is a very special place for me.”
