We all knew this day would come, but sadly that time is now almost upon us, the loss of our dear Subway at Shoprite, Slane lhiat (translation for those who didn’t take Manx seriously at school, it means ‘Goodbye’) my love.
This Subway Café will be closing for good at 8pm on Tuesday February, 27.
Although it is certainly worth noting that this may be earlier if stocks run out.
The closure will be of both Peel and Port Erin Subway outlets in Shoprite stores.
See ya Shoprite
Just as some of us (me and Gef’s Sam Turton) were coming to terms with the sad fate of the Chicken Maryland and all the other delicacies the wonderful deli had to offer, this is quite frankly the nail in the coffin.
Although the Tesco takeover isn’t all bad news.
Tesco has started advertising for jobs on Island, looking for baristas for a coffee shop and a shift leader for its F&F clothing range.
It’s time to accept, out with the old and in with the new – which may include some cheap clothes from Tesco.
Tesco takeover
In October confirmed to local radio station Energy FM that the smaller format Shoprite stores will become Tesco Express stores, post-transition.
The supermarket said that it is in the early stages on planning for the store refits, but will update customers once it has more detail.
In the past comments have been made that supermarkets with distribution hubs overseas have struggled to stay stocked when the boat doesn’t sail and the shelves become empty.
Tesco however has confirmed to Energy FM that as part of this acquisition it has purchased the Shoprite distribution centre.
The store added that is it looking to recruit up to 60 additional employees.
