The DoI Minister has explained why her department has hired a specialist engineer to advise on treating asphalt containing coal tar waste.
Funding of up to £40,000 was agreed by Treasury to secure the position.
Writing on her constituency page, Dr Michelle Haywood said: “Some people it seems will complain about absolutely anything.
“In this case DoI have a specialist engineer advising them on which method would be most appropriate for treating the asphalt containing coal tar waste that we have in storage.”
Sensible
She added: “There are several possible methods and this is the first time the Island has started to deal with the Coal Tar Waste, so it’s a very sensible step to get expert advice to make sure that what we do is appropriate and the end product can be safely reused as we have planned.
“Whilst lots of people on Facebook think they are experts, the department engineers know that this is something novel and are seeking expertise from specialist engineers. Its obviously important to get it right and this is a sensible way of ensuring that we do.”
Dr Haywood said the move is expected to unblock stalled projects, including Glen Chass.
