Spread The Cost of Prescriptions

Patients will soon be able to spread the cost of an annual NHS prescription prepayment certificate over 10 months.

The Department of Health and Social Care has the plan set down for May’s Tynwald, amending the NHS (Charges for Drugs and Appliances) Regulations.

Currently, a 12-month prepayment certificate costs a single upfront payment of £54. A four-month certificate costs £19.

Under the change, patients can pay in ten monthly instalments of £5.40 by direct debit.

The department said the move “will allow greater access to pre-payment certificates” and “will increase affordability for a greater number of patients”.
