Treasury Minister Chris Thomas has warned that the Isle of Man could not continue on its current financial trajectory.
Mr Thomas says the government must bring spending back in line with income after years of drawing heavily on reserves.
Speaking during Manx.News’ Budget 2026 analysis programme, Thomas said the island’s finances have been under sustained pressure, with expenditure rising faster than revenue for several years.
He described the new budget as a “budget of confidence” designed to stabilise public services and rebuild reserves.
He also confirmed that Manx Care’s overspend for the current year will require a return to Tynwald for approval, but insisted the coming year’s budget places a “hard constraint” on further overruns.
