A senior police officer has urged any parent that may be struggling with a new baby to seek help.
This follows a tragic incident where a mother was jailed for grievous bodily harm which left her baby boy with life changing injuries.
The mother was sentenced to 30 months in prison after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to her three-month-old son in December 2022.
The child, who cannot be named, was shaken and sustained irreparable brain damage and required emergency treatment at Nobles Hospital before being transferred to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Detective Chief Inspector Michelle Maddocks, who led the investigation, said: “I want to urge any parent that may be struggling with a new baby to seek help before matters go too far and irreparable damage is done.
“Social Care and Manx Care both provide services that support parents and families and there is no shame in asking for help or recognising you may need it.”
