Taxpayers have paid over almost £500,000 for work relating to the Mooir Vannin wind farm and hydrocarbon extraction.
The majority of the £467,357 has been spent on external consultants and staffing.
Chief Minister Alf Cannan, who is also chair of the Energy Policy Board, said that not all of the money has been spent on Orsted’s planned wind farm off the coast of Maughold.
He said: “I must caveat my response by saying this figure is uncertain because in respect of legislation and regulation, it is also intertwined with some of the work that has been required for offshore hydrocarbon development, and the two are not easily separated.”
Asked about Orsted’s potential to bring power onshore to the island, Mr Cannan said work between the company and Manx Utilities was at a “very early stage conceptual work”.
He added that “there is no firm agreements as to cabling landing on the Isle of Man, or indeed, that the offshore wind can indeed supply the Isle of Man at this stage”.
