The Tynwald Commissioner for Administration has refused to investigate two complaints against the Chief Constable and the Department of Home Affairs, citing lack of jurisdiction.
Advocate Paul Beckett confirmed he cannot probe complaints concerning the Isle of Man Constabulary, as police are not a “listed authority” under the 2011 Act.
The complainant, who has been pursuing action since January 2026, alleged “maladministration and service failure” in the recording and progression of police complaints.
They had argued their case concerned “post-complaint administrative failures, not the underlying criminal justice issues”.
However, the TCA ruled that the act excludes “action taken by or with the consent or authority of the Attorney General or Chief Constable for the purposes of, or in connection with, the detection, investigation or prevention of crime”.
