The Southern 100 Road Races have paid tribute to Dr Sally Simmons, who has stepped down as Chief Medical Officer after more than a decade overseeing medical operations on the Billown Course.
Dr Simmons first joined the event’s medical team in 2013, working trackside before moving into Race Control.
She became Chief Medical Officer in 2015 and has led the medical service with what organisers describe as exceptional professionalism and commitment.
A former Armed Forces doctor and now a GP in Alderney, she brought extensive pre‑hospital emergency care experience, and a lifelong passion for motorcycles, to the role. Under her leadership, the Southern 100’s medical team has become regarded as one of the strongest in road racing.
Reflecting on her final meeting, Dr Simmons said it had been “a very emotional day” and thanked colleagues for 13 years of support, adding that the team would be in “good hands” under incoming CMO Dr Paul Hancock.
Southern 100 Chairman George Peach said her contribution had been “second to none”, praising her dedication and the legacy she leaves behind.
The Club has welcomed Dr Hancock into the role and says it looks forward to building on the foundations established during Dr Simmons’ tenure.
