Fire crews have warned of the importance of carbon monoxide alarms after an incident in the west of the island.
Shortly after 6pm this evening a major appliance was dispatched from Kirk Michael to reports of a Carbon Monoxide alarm sounding within a house in Cronk Y Voddy.
Once in attendance the officer in charge identified thick black smoke issuing from a flue on the side of the property and isolated the oil supply to the building before deploying two fire fighters into the house to isolate the boiler.
To meet the needs of the incident a second appliance was mobilised from Kirk Michael.
Once isolated the property was ventilated using a positive pressure ventilation fan and checked over using gas monitoring equipment before the residents were allowed to return.
Crews were in attendance for approximately 40 minutes.
The Fire Service said: “Fortunately this property was fitted with a working Carbon Monoxide alarm which gave an early warning to the residents, allowing them to self evacuate to a place of safety whilst calling for our assistance before the incident had time to escalate.”
